Pumpkin Skin Care Benefits

Pumpkin Is The New Black…

As we head into October, pumpkins will be everywhere, not only for decor but in our food as well. Personally, we think pumpkin should be an all-year thing, but, you know, seasons.

Here are a few ways this nutrient-rich food offers health benefits for the body, and general delicious wellness:

  • Pumpkin Brightens and Heals the Skin

Pumpkin is rich in vitamins A and C and contains alpha-hydroxy acids (a pretty popular acid…), all of which help to brighten and soothe the skin. AHAs increase cell turnover rate, helping skin heal from damage faster, and preventing it from looking dull. Vitamins A and C increase collagen production, which keeps skin supple and youthful. These skin benefits can be gained from consuming pumpkin internally, but have a look online for the ways it can also be applied as a mask for the same results.

  • Pumpkin Reduces the Risk of Cancer and Chronic Disease.

Rich in antioxidants (in particular carotenoids), pumpkin fights cellular damage caused by harmful free radicals, which have been linked to cancer and several other chronic conditions. While antioxidants can’t completely prevent cell damage and disease, they’re a great front line of defense.

  • Pumpkin Support Good Eyesight

The carotenoids contained in pumpkin convert into vitamin A once digested, which is a particularly effective nutrient for maintaining great vision. Pumpkin also contains lutein, an essential nutritional compound that protects the eyes. Lutein consumption is linked to a lower risk of cataracts.

  • Pumpkin is (Surprise!) Heart-Healthy

Pumpkin is a fantastic source of potassium and fiber, both of which help maintain a strong cardiovascular system. The high antioxidant content in pumpkin can also help keep cholesterol levels low.

There are lots of ways to use pumpkin as a health-forward resource.

Topical facial masks, cooking with pumpkin (it’s great in soups for those chilly fall and winter days), and pumpkin baked goods, like muffins and bread are always a crowd-pleaser. Don’t forget to roast pumpkin seeds from your jack-o-lanterns for a delicious treat.

We hope you reap the benefits of this seasonal food packed with nutrition and flavor!
