Tired? You Don’t Have To Wear It On Your Face.
We’ve all had those days where we just haven’t had enough sleep- out late the night before, up late binge-watching Netflix, or just plain lying awake tossing and turning (we’ve addressed that situation here) can all leave us wilted the next day.
Lack of sleep not only affects the way you feel, but it affects the way you look as well. Here’s what to do to look more awake when you can’t curl up for a good nap:
Wash and exfoliate.
Thoroughly cleansing and exfoliating is a good way to brighten up. Sloughing off skin cells not only makes skin look brighter, but it also wakes you up a little bit mentally. Use LaFlore® Live Probiotic Cleanser with cooler water than usual to wash the sleep out of those eyes.
Focus on the eyes.
Dark circles under puffy, tired eyes are a telltale sign of a lack of sleep. These can be eased by gently patting LaFlore® Live Probiotic Serum Concentrate around and under the delicate eye area. Again, it helps to cool the area, either by splashing with cold water, or even refrigerating your serum for a few minutes before applying if you’ve got time.
Yellow tinted concealer for dark circles.
Just a small spot of yellow-toned concealer patted gently around the eye can help as well. Blend thoroughly to conceal and brighten dark circles.
Brighten eyes with light eyeliner and shadow shades.
Tired eyes can be bloodshot eyes. If you’re looking a little pink, apply light blue or white eyeliner to your waterline. If this is done subtly, it’ll make the eyes look larger and correct the tone. Using light, shadows can also help brighten up the area, but again it’s got to be subtle. Not only could this attract unwanted attention to the area, but it can also look like a five-year-old chose your colors for the day.
Mascara instantly makes eyes pop and look bigger and brighter. Applying a few layers is an absolute must when you haven’t slept much. You may want to use waterproof mascara if you find that your eyes are dried out and sensitive. Just make sure to choose a brand that’s made with all-natural, cruelty-free ingredients.
Drink plenty of water.
Tired skin needs nourishing water to keep it hydrated and bright throughout a sleepy day. Keep a water bottle with you and refill it frequently. Caffeine never hurts either, just be sure not to overdo it. Too much coffee can be dehydrating.
Let’s be honest. If you haven’t gotten enough sleep, there’s really not a miracle cure to transform you from zombie to bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, and that’s ok. We all have those nights, just follow some of the suggestions we’ve laid out, and they’ll help perk up that tired face.
If all else fails, work it. Big sunglasses and a hip to-go cup of coffee always makes you look like you’ve been out partying all night Hollywood-style. No one has to know it’s because you had two seasons of Gilmore Girls to catch up on…
