Want to get away for a fall vacay? Here are some relaxing vacation spots you shouldn’t miss…
Sure, summer vacations are great, and spring break is fun, but nothing beats an autumn trip when the weather turns chilly. We’ve found a few gems to share when you want to get away and relax this fall season:
Asheville is one of the most romantic places to get away during the fall. The breathtaking beauty of the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Appalachian Trail’s fall foliage (no words we put here could do it justice) is reason enough to go. But there’s also an abundance of art festivals, world-class restaurants, amazing breweries, and cozy boutique hotels available to showcase Asheville’s Southern charm.
Possibly the best-known attraction in Asheville is the Biltmore Estate. This stunning 250-room French Renaissance chateau is America’s largest privately-owned estate. Built during what’s known as America’s “gilded age,” it’s easy to get swept away in this glittering castle of wealth and opulence. Wander the gardens, and you’ll think you’re in Versailles in the mountains.
If that ain’t romantic, we don’t know what is.
Jackson Hole, WY–
Jackson Hole is an ideal fall destination for outdoor activities. The Grand Teton National Park and Snake River Valley are incredible, not only for hiking but for biking as well- be sure to rent a “fat bike” and get access to those out-of-the-way trails a regular mountain bike can’t.
With access to all the diverse wildlife that calls the National Park home, vacationing in Jackson Hole is a one-of-a-kind experience for animal lovers, too. Watch the wild Buffalo roam, view the diverse migratory bird population, and visit The National Elk Refuge to listen to male elks “bugle” for mates during September and October.
After a day of hiking, biking, and wildlife watching visit the Granite Hot Springs for a relaxing soak. In addition to all that rugged activity, there’s a fall arts festival, a wildlife film festival, and excellent hotels and restaurants.
Fall in Vancouver is the place to be if you happen to be looking for a hip metropolitan getaway. Host to the Vancouver International Film Festival, an abundant theater scene, a world-class symphony, and happening nightlife, it’s a great place to see and be seen. (Look on its website for Vancouver’s most Instagrammable spots.)
Bonus: British Columbia’s hotel rates go down Autumn so you can spend that extra money on the opera!
If you’re looking for a little warmer place to relax for your fall getaway, Sedona is a great place to be- daytime temperatures range in the 60’s come November.
Get in the spirit of Halloween by visiting the Tlaquepaque Arts and Crafts Village during late October and early November and take part in the city’s Day of the Dead celebration! Also, during the months of mid-October through mid-November, the leaves display their fall foliage on the indigenous maple, oak, and sycamore trees. The places to see this fireworks display at it’s most brilliant are spots like Cookstove Trail in Oak Creek Canyon, and Baldwin Trail in the Oak Creek Village.
Definitely don’t leave without visiting the brilliant, diverse Native American cultural sites housed by Sedona. The Wupatki National Monument and Palatki Heritage Site are just two of many places offered up to tourists to learn and appreciate Native American art and culture. If you’re interested in the opportunity to actually stand inside the rooms of a 1,000-year-old cliff house (why the heck wouldn’t you be??), then get out and explore Sedona’s spiritual side.
We hope you’ve got the time to get out for a fall getaway this year to relax and appreciate the beauty of the season. There really is so much to see and do out there, it might be just what you need to refresh both the body and mind.
