5 Ways to Use Olive Oil In Your Beauty Routine

Olive Oil Benefits

You probably already use olive oil in your kitchen, but did you know that this cooking staple can actually do double duty as a beauty product? There are several different ways you can incorporate olive oil into your beauty routine for a fresh, healthy look. It’s an affordable and easy way to nourish your body. Here are 5 of the best ways to use olive oil in your beauty routine.

  1. Use it as a makeup remover.

Olive oil’s light, slippery texture makes it ideal for taking off makeup. Just apply a small amount to a cotton pad and watch all of the day’s makeup just slide right off. It’s safe to use and is very nourishing for your skin. Just be sure to follow it up with a cleanser to prevent clogged pores.

  1. Get smooth and shiny hair.

Olive oil is also particularly effective as a hair treatment. If you struggle with frizz, you can take a small amount of olive oil in your hands and apply it to your hair to smooth everything down. You can also use it as a hair mask if you feel like your hair is overly dry. This is particularly helpful for those who use a lot of heat on their hair, or have experienced damage from dying their hair many times. An easy hair mask is a mixture of one egg yolk and two tablespoons of olive oil. It’s cheap and easy, and when you rinse it off, you’ll have shiny, nourished tresses.

  1. Soften up dry skin.

Olive oil is incredibly moisturizing, so if you have dry patches, you can use it to soften them up and prevent flaking. Rub olive oil on dry hands or feet before bed, gently massaging into the skin. Then, wear socks or gloves to help the olive oil really soak into your skin. When you wake up, your hands and feet will feel incredibly nourished. You can also apply it to dry, chapped lips to soften them up and create a barrier against cold air. If your skin is feeling dry or dull, you can also apply a very light layer of olive oil to your face before bedtime to restore a glowy look to your skin.

  1. Soak in the tub.

If you want to give yourself a spa-like moisturizing treatment, try adding a few tablespoons of olive oil to your bath. The olive oil’s moisturizing properties will soak into your skin and nourish it. When you get out of the bath and dry off, you’ll likely notice that your skin feels soft and smooth.

  1. Condition your nails.

If your nails are feeling brittle, you can use olive oil to strengthen them and improve their texture. This is a particularly helpful treatment to do in between manicures to make your nails look and feel better. To treat them, heat some oil up just slightly so it has a warm temperature, and then soak your nails for about 10 minutes.
